Our Mission
Maximize Social Responsibility Towards Promoting Equality and Equity
Our mission is to tackle inequality and inequity through corporate and community; partnerships. A core economic ideology, published by Milton Friedman, is that a business’s sole responsibility is to use its resources to increase the business’ profit. These resources, such as human capital, land, and water, are ultimately tied to the community. Are profits really a business’ only responsibility? Or, rather, do they have an even greater responsibility to the communities that support them?
It is apparent that there is an interdependence between businesses and their communities that necessitates the need for sustainable business practices. Leaders today who have only been concerned about business continuity are now recognizing that the fate of their company is inherently tied to the wellbeing of the planet. Consumers are also recognizing the fragility of our ecosystems and the importance of preserving the critical natural resources—freshwater, clean air, robust biodiversity, productive land—on which our society depends.
These needs transcend generations; even Baby Boomers are beginning to acknowledge how our relationship with the environment directly affects the future, the way Millennials and Gen Z have recognized this impact.
Collectively, humans have not been making good progress on reducing the environmental damage that corporations do. Some commendable companies have launched inspiring initiatives, but the negative impact of business activity overall continues to grow. At OneBarrow, we aim to slow, stop, or even reverse companies’ negative environmental impact through partnerships and programs designed to encourage the responsible acquisition and use of resources in order to protect the future.
This is wired into our DNA. It is our MISSION!
